Tremulous times

I'm so tired of this fucking shit. I was feeling decidedly normal for a few days, but fat, so yesterday I went for a run and felt fine for like, 6 hours, and now I'm a trembling, muscle-jumping... thing. Gonna beg a doctor for some more beta-blockers tomorrow, I've run out. I'm still fairly sure it's just the lingering effect of the Euthyrox but just the idea that this could be something cronic is enough to freak me out. Also, the constant trembling is freaky just on its own.

Along with diss topic stress and feeling very very fat, these are not good days.

The only good thing is that I possibly won't be able to drink tomorrow (alcohol these days always make me a bit shaky even when I'm not shaking all the time, so I can only imagine what the knock-on effect will be). Big corridor party with all the classmates, including the Chinese gang. They're a lovely bunch of girls, but they stay sober and love to take pictures. This is not a good combination with my party persona and behaviour of late.

Bloodied tooth

One very sore right calf, two moderately sore thighs and a slightly exhausted set of lungs later I have conquered my first race. Wohoo!! Apart from the torture of running and the stress not to drag my team down too far the internal ranking it was AMAZING FUN. Can't wait to do it again (having actually trained for it). Also it would probably make it less stressful not to be in a relay.
With your colleagues.

We were the last team (within my company) by about 10 minutes which would all be mine, everyone else ran it on 30 mins or so. But hey, it was my first race! No practice! I was proud as a mama cat. With a bloodied tooth. Eh. You get what I mean, right? (cannibalism not implied)

I still can't believe I ran a race. Ha! I could say screw you all my old gym teachers, but I think they were all pretty nice people, deep down. I mean, PE as an activity sucks, sports doesn't neccessarily. Sadly it's easy to draw an erroneous conclusion as an awkward, humiliated 15-year old. Well, better late then never. Sport doesn't suck!!!

Race day coming up very soon...

So. I'm either insane or very brave, but I just signed up as a last-minute replacement for a 5k corporate run tomorrow.
I did run yesterday, Tuesday, but that was the first time in months. Oh well. I'm hoping it will be a therapeutic experience and not add to my issues with group-excercise (read: PE horror). It's 25,000 people running and 5,000 per run, so apparently it will be crowded enough that speed will not be an issue (as in, people will slow you down). I'm counting on that!!

I went to Runner's World for some tips but even the shortest prep time was a week, and that's for seasoned runners. On the other extreme is the office-circulating sentiment 'anyone can run 5k' (the person circulating this rumous has, however, been in training since March). Sooo. I will probably survive.

Anyway. Post-vacation blues hit me this Monday but then I ordered some curtains and now I'm tolerably well. Shopping as a cure for consumer-society-induced existential angst - I am sooo.... trapped? Conformed? Brain-washed? Take your pick.

Moving/Movement

I have furniture!! Sadly, it's all stowed away safely in the storage room until Moving Day. Still, it was fun. Crazy mad on a Sunday, burned a whole in my wallet and aching in new places after lugging it in and off the trailer, but fun.

I also called the rental agency again today and they ensured me that the mold that was written about in the newspapers was due to some kind of isolated leak and not in our building. This guy definitely sounds a bit shifty, but what he says makes some sense and we're now getting our separate inspection on move-in day. This could be both positive or negative - if they find anything it's a bit late to have any leverage, we kind of have to move in. But we do get to see the inspection ourselves instead of just getting a report, and this also reassures me he means it when he says there should be no problems. M is also getting in touch with the current residents today to negotiate the move-in date and deal with some practical issues, and she's going to check with them as well... Fingers crossed but I think it should be OK!

On Saturday I finally made myself go to Löplabbet to test my pronation type - apparently I'm neutral. This is somewhat disapppointing as I've been having recurrent problems with a shin splint/tibia pain for a couple of weeks now, and that could have been a probably cause. I went running last night and felt fine until this morning... it really sucks. It can apparently go away IF:

-you stretch/use a heat/ice pack/use liniment/change surfaces/train up your muscles/rest/not rest/cross-train. Alternatively it could:

-become cronic/cause a fracture/need surgery. Woohoo, not. I'm confused!!

Suggested alternate sports was bicycling and swimming. I *hate* bicycling with a vengeance, and swimming, well, that one should be obvious. Apart from the obvious it's laborious and all the chlorine ruins your hair and skin.
I'm a regular Miss Sunshine today!!! Well, it is Monday...

I am such a homebody! We have a leaving do for someone who left rather abruptly two weeks ago this evening, and just the thought of not being home until 8ish is making me not wanna go despite at least the dinner being on the company's tab, and the fact that this is the first social do apart from the lame day-at-the-zoo team building exercise in May.

I think this attitude is mostly due to the fact that I've tried to 'run through' the cold I've been getting this week, with the only results that I now feel broken and all my bones ache. I've been almost injury free for the 6 months since I started running again but now I've got lots of little things... I should probably go do that thing where someone checks my pronation type.
I have, however, a somewhat irrational fear of thread mills - I've seen to many comedies where someone tries to start a healthy life on this forementioned device and ends up flat on his/her ass.

Apart from that, mostly good news - we have finally booked our trip for Mallorca! Now my sister is also joining us the whole week, and one of her friends for about four days, which should lift som pressure after a lot of intense family-time (however, we will share one shower on 5 people in an apartment without an AC, so again, it might not). I am however throughly excited since it's felt like October for about a month now. Puerto Pollensa, near Alcudia, t-minus 27 days!!

I did write this blog post offline that I was gonna post last weekend when we had no water but looking at how whiny this blog has been lately I'm just gonna tell ya: for 72h we had no water whatsoever.
For toilet, drinking, washing, we had to borrow buckets from our neighbours and on Sunday we took a family trip to see grandma so we could all shower (it was actually a surprisingly nice day-trip - also went to IKEA to test which mattress I'm gonna buy for my flat).
But it got fixed on the Monday when I was at work and was also a relatively cheap problem to fix (good for you, dad!).

To leave on a high - Thursday is cake day at work and today we had chocolate-banana cake with chocolate spread and flaked, toasted hazelnuts on top. Yum.

a shitty start to a sunny week

I had a lovely weekend, which you can't really tell from this post title, I know...

The parental unit went away for most of Saturday. I was supposed to sort through my boxes in the (very small) storage space and 'make it less'. However, once I got as far as my long-sought after box of CDs from my early teens, I didn't make much more headway that weekend! Sadly I discovered they were all un-rippable, so clearly from the time before mp3-players really made their mark. I don't even use an mp3-player because of my ears, but playlists are really the laymen's way of playing librarian, and as a librarian I love making playlists excessively...
I did make some headway in re-organizing my closet, as I could do that while listening to the music (and no, I will never reveal on this blog what the music was, suffice to say I hid the CDs if anyone was coming over and then managed to hide them so well I coudn't find them for almost 10 years)...

Yesterday we went shopping at Center Syd, one of the shopping malls that has lately been re-modeled and which has now lost even those few last remnants of individuality. Every single shopping centre in Skåne now look, feel and smell pretty much exactly the same, and contain to roughly 85% exactly the same stores. It was eerily creepy and uncomfortable, not to mention soulless. I wandered around aimlessly (even I know when I've hit a limit and I was so not buying anything like all the shit I have crammed in at home), but eventually I found my way towards the sports outlets and finally found the running jacket I've been looking for forever (at a decent price).

It's perfect! Lightweight, rain-proof, with lots of reflex details in nice patterns, with removable arms and zip pockets at the front. This way I have something to keep phone and keys in while I run even in the summer when it's warmer. I bought one of those things to wrap around your arm you can keep your mp3-player or phone in, but it feels quite bulky and awkward. I also found two sports tops in nice breathable materials, at discount prices. I'm not usually one for outlets or sales, but I've discovered proper sports equipment is apparently something for the wealthy (as is good healthy food, incidentally, with the way junk is cheap and vegetables are expensive... anyhow).

Oh yeah, the reason for the post title. I arrived at a suspiciously empty train platform this morning, and was like what the heck before I even got out of the car. Dad sad it's probably because people have gone on vacation - he was almost right! The train had gone on vacation - and is taking a whopping 2 months off!! I now have to work 9-5 and not get home until about 7.20pm or start getting up half an hour earlier - which would make it 5.10am. Sucks dude! I know there are worse problems, but this one really bummed me out!

Consequently, I answered 3 housing ads today. One of them looked for vegetarians so I may stand a fighting chance!!
