The Monday Morning from Hell
I feel bad keeping up the whining, but today was one really awful Monday morning.
Torrential rain from hell to set the back-drop (we're getting 1/10 of a year's normal downcast in 24hours, so no joke). Woke up extra early at 5.30 because dad was going to the airport so we were taking an early train together (so, no sleep on the train but I was going to get into work early and thus, hurray, leave early).
I really should have suspected the morning was going to go to hell in a handbasket when trying to manouver into the backseat of mum's car (in the torrential rains) I hit my head, hard, on the car (on the plus side this intensive pain which has now dulled to an ache did temporarily override my day-3 migraine-thingie that I woke up with). Train was fine, though incredibly sleepy I managed to stay awake and make small-talk to dad, train was not delayed and we parted ways at the airport as scheduled at 7.45.
I went to the metro, which was running fine, and ran fine until we were two stops away from my final destination, when suddenly the doors didn't open. I have no idea how long this would have taken if by some chance (or possibly because of earlier problems??) we had a staff member on the train - these are automatic trains without drivers. She opened the emergency doors after about 10mins at the stop. Cue manual closing of the train, train leaving, new train arriving, new train stops in the wrong position, time estimate for next train going up and down like a roller coaster etc etc... After about 45 minutes of this I gave up and went above ground to look for a taxi or something.
Then I suppose I got a bit lucky - the map of the immediate area didn't tell me anything about which direction I needed to go in, but stumbling randomly through torrential rains I came across a bus stop, with one bus out of 4 going to my final destination, Kongens Nytorv. It only went four times an hour, but was late and so I just managed to get on it.
So in the end it only took me 1h longer than it normally does to get to work, but bloody hell! I know we don't have to work late to compensate but I would feel silly leaving early when I arrived later than, well, ever (I did have two numbers for work programmed into my phone which I tried to call to let my boss know I would be late, neither of which I got to work properly...!).
Oh yeah. Arriving at work (drenched like a rat) it turns out they are doing remodelling work in the immediate downstairs area - cue drilling!! It's really doing wonders for my migraine along with having run out of painkillers in my purse.
Huzzah! for a new work week.
