On making yourself sick, the non-bulimic way
I've been walking around for the past week with a kind of sickly sweet smell constantly in my nose, kind of like puke. I've just put it down to the general affects of a heatwave on an urban settlement, although I thought it was odd no one else was smelling it. Today it's however so strong I feel nauseous so I was walking around sniffing things in my office (where it smells particularly bad) when I realized that the thing that's smelly is me.
My skin smells like puke.
Now, this is not as daft as it sounds, nor as alarming. I'm simply in ketosis as an effect of my diet. I figure it's because of the heatwave it's become more noticable, because it's more common if you don't drink enough. Now I am well-known for my huge water requirements but during 30 degrees I guess it's hard to keep up, even for me. The heatwave is supposed to be over but my office is still really hot and stuffy. So, there. Good thing the only time I spent in the company of others during the weekend was outdoors (the beach with J on Saturday - the only thing worth reporting from a week otherwise filled with heat wave and really really really crappy trains and anger and helplessness and lots and lots of sweat).
Now ketosis is supposed to smell like acetone, but I have come across several instances where people refer to it as 'bad body odour', ' sickly sweet' or 'ripe bananas' (the smell of ripe bananas make me nauseous as well, so, surprise!).
Just another reason to long for the 15C they promised this week. BRING IT ON.
