These are merry times indeed

Wow, I really can't write a single blog post without mentioning the word Christmas (going as far as to use the xmas spelling, which I have vehemently opposed for most of my life).

Last night was the company xmas party, and it turned out to be a great evening - I had a brilliant plan to avoid any drunken embarrassing moments. My flatmate had a gig and I've never seen his band play, and I really wanted to go to both events. I started off the evening with my colleagues, by heading for the pub at 5 to await the 6.30 for 7pm start of the official do at the Haymarket Hotel.
We arrived at the Haymarket about 7.30, and proceeded to celebrate with champagne. A few glasses later one of the RAs cunningly spotted someone with a martini, which led to a bunch of us mingling next to the bar so we could fill up on 'deep purple' martinis (fruits of the forest with lots lots lots of alcohol) *and* grab food of the trays as they were coming out of the kitchen (the proportion of nibbles to alcohol was, shall we say, enough to make one suspect the organizers desperately wanted some gossip to come out of this event (which sadly, I don't think it did). I do remember having some mini fish and chips towards the end and practically ravishing it).

Anyway... I had a merry ol' time but! at 9 o'clock promptly I left the party despite protests (I vaguely recall I was discussing my personal dance style, which obviously would make anyone overhearing desperate for me to stay and thus contribute to the entertainment) and headed for Camden. To say I was high on Christmas cheer would be a severe understatement (I even had to take the tube from Piccadilly instead of Leicester Square coming from Haymarket because I wasn't sure if I could find my way to Leicester Square, which if you know London was a pretty silly thing do you if you're taking the Northern line to Camden, as I was).

Met up with two of my friends (who don't drink), had a merry old time enjoying my flatmate's band (turned out he's the lead singer!!) and they were very good, though I still say he should have let his hair out for effect (if you're a rocker with long hair and sing in a rock band, work it!).
All in all, one of the most enjoyable nights for quite some time, and though I was fairly nausous this morning it wasn't bad enough to make me regret anything. I think this 'get drunk on free booze and then leave for non-work pastures when you start getting silly' (and in my case, bitchy) was a splendid idea and avoided any next morning regrets.
